Along the Migrant Trail: A Borderlands Portrait by Michael Hyatt
Dark Spring Press is proud to announce the release of Along the Migrant Trail: A Borderlands Portrait by Michael Hyatt. This book is a follow-up to Hyatt’s previous publication, Migrant Artifacts: Magic & Loss in the Sonoran Desert, and includes recent color photographs as well as a comprehensive foreword by Rebecca A. Fowler, Ph.D.
Designed and produced by Dark Spring Press and published by Fronteranueva Books in Los Angeles, Along the Migrant Trail delivers a powerful view of one of today’s most controversial journeys, the migratory passage of thousands of men, women, and children, from Mexico, Central America and other nations around the world, across the Arizona-Sonora border.
Michael Hyatt’s ground-level perspective frames the perilous trek from many vantage points, most uniquely through images of things left behind—artifacts of a journey that has become a pivotal issue in today’s national and international debate.
Hyatt’s photographs, in brilliant color and stark black-and-white discover a child’s sun-bleached dress, an American Eagle backpack lying on the parched earth, a copy of El Diario de Ana Frank with the pages blowing in the desert wind—telling a poignant story of the people who have hazarded this often fatal trip. We also see their faces and the faces of those coming to their aid, undaunted by the physical and political challenges, in an unforgettable portrait of humanity in action, preserving—and celebrating—the lives of others in need.
This book has been chosen as a finalist for The da Vinci Eye Award in cover design by The Eric Hoffer Book Awards 2020.
